Anyway, here’s my main story. The ballad of Daniel Purjes began in Manhattan two decades ago. My parents lived in New York throughout my childhood. My father had worked as an asset manager in the financial center. Eventually, he would switch jobs, and we bid Wall Street and Lady Liberty adieu when I was ten.  Ever since, we’ve only ever been sporadic visitors to the Big Apple.

His new career took the family to sunny San Diego, where we lived ever since. Despite California growing on me (old friends do swear that I sound like a surfer dude), I still see myself as a New Yorker at heart.  The same cannot be said for my siblings, who were much, much younger than I was.

In the past, I would’ve dreamed of becoming a pitcher in the big leagues, but that’s water under the bridge.  Today, I choose to enter athletics through a different field; the management aspect of sports turned out to be my true calling.
