Reasons To Pursue a Career In Sports Management

There are more careers in sports than being an athlete or in the coaching staff. One of these sub-fields is sports management, which offers a vat of opportunities for those who love the world of athletics. Here’s a quick look at sports management and why it’s worth pursuing as a professional endeavor.

Sports management tackles the business aspect of sports and recreation. A sports manager can work for professional teams, their parent programs or organizations such as the NBA and NFL, as well as colleges and universities. They are also widely bankable for companies’ recreational departments and sports marketing firms.

A sports manager can be an event manager, a facility manager, a promotion or information expert, or a sports economist, to name a few key positions. He or she can be in the front or back office, can interface between players/team and the media, and provide the needed energy, motivation, and professional voice in the athletic organization.

Besides the excitement and great compensation that a career in sports management can provide, one can enjoy these diverse career opportunities in professional athletic organizations, private firms, and nonprofits. One can also make an impact on the community and the specific field of play that he or she loves.

Apart from the chance to work with high-profile clients and influential figures in sports, a sports manager can also gain skills that can impress the business world and be applied later on in his or her own entrepreneurial pursuits.

The Dangers Of Fantasy Sports Gambling

Gambling is a risky proposition that when left unchecked can ruin one’s credit ratings, even their lives. And the situation can get worse the more accessible gambling can be. This is the dangers of betting on fantasy sports. This is why fantasy sports gambling is so dangerous.

First off, the marketing behind apps and websites that promote gambling -- they ride on a person’s love for the sports or the players. They make it look so fun, so easy, and most of all, profitable. This combination can make fantasy sports gambling addictive.

Fantasy sports requires a lot of research. And unless you’re unemployed, you could even be using time at work to do your research on team and player stats. This could get you in trouble as people most likely won’t share your enthusiasm on fantasy sports betting.

Another danger found in fantasy sports betting is that the easier it is to put money on these apps or websites, the easier people can lose money on this. Of course, one could say that it’s also just as easy to win money. But like any casino, the winnings mostly go to either the house or experts who dedicate time, effort, and money on this.

Coaching And Managing Children During Little League Events

Sports coaches are a huge influence on the life of a child. Apart from parents, family members who are always around, and teachers, coaches make the biggest impression on kids. Children will take a lot of the values they learn in Little League or any other sport they enter as they grow older. This is why it’s important that coaches know how to manage, coach, and mentor the children under them during training and sporting events.

There are a number of invaluable life lessons that children can learn through sports such as fair play, hard work, teamwork, and discipline. And it is the job of the coach to instill these values into the kids who play under them.

Coaches should also teach kids about sportsmanship, which is as important as love for the sport itself and how good the children play it. Coaches should also be aware that just like parents, they are role models for the kids.Coaches should conduct themselves the way they would like their children to act as their mentees get older.

Coaches should also learn to draw the line with helicopter parents diplomatically. This is a huge part of managing and coaching Little League games. Some parents may be a bit too eager to be coaches themselves and may affect the way their children play and enjoy the game. Coaches should make sure this never happens.

Although using coaching techniques used for senior athletes may work for some children, youth sports coaches should not take things too seriously. Young players may not fully understand advanced sports strategies. Coaches should reconsider any game plan that may ruin the fun for children. While winning can be tons of fun for kids, it should not be the priority over the young athlete’s ability to have a great time.

A look at Magic and Kobe: The ultimate Laker debate

Before we begin analyzing and comparing Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant for the ultimate Laker debate, I’ve taken into account one simple fact, they’ve dedicated their entire careers to the franchise. Because of this, I won’t be including all-time greats such as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain, or Shaquille O’Neal in the discussion since they’ve played for other teams as well.

Now on to the debate.

Magic Johnson has been the undisputed king of the Lakers from the moment he wore the jersey. As a rookie, his impact was immediate, leading the Lakers to the NBA championship. Over the next decade, Magic’s rivalry with Larry Bird would revive the floundering NBA and restore the respect fans had for the game.

Kobe Bryant, on the other hand, was a prodigy, joining the Lakers straight out of high school. He needed time to hone his skills. When he did reach his peak, he was touted as the next Michael Jordan. And by all accounts, he was. Kobe could shoot just as well and play just as well.

If you’re going to look at Magic’s weakness against Kobe in this debate, it would have to be career stats. Magic’s career was cut short by HIV. Kobe’s career was years longer. However, looking at the averages, Magic had higher averages in assists and rebounds, and his team was arguably more successful than Kobe’s, given that the Lakers towards Kobe’s end no longer could make it to the playoffs.

What do you think?

An insight into why football is the king of American sports

Mctague visited me a few days ago. He’s an old pal from New York who works at Wall Street. I took him out for a few drinks, and we talked about all the stuff we loved like Rockwood, investing in NYC assets, and fund investment reports and asset investments listed in Barron’s. He updated me on some of the New York Times main stories. After a couple of shots, we started talking about the Super Bowl and how popular American football had become.

According to a survey conducted on more than 2,000 American adults, almost half mentioned American football as their favorite sport to watch. In fact, around 700 of those surveyed loved watching the NFL or any other pro football league, while 230 said that college football was their choice.

The numbers are quite mind-boggling. The Super Bowl itself has over 110 million viewers on an average for the past decade. College football attracts over 50 million fans who attend the games and 210 million viewers who watch it on TV. Approximately 120 million watch NCAA bowl games.

Excitement, brutality, pageantry, and a host of other factors have brought people together throughout the years making football the undisputed king of American sports. It doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
